
Melissa Crystal O'Neil was born July 12, 1988[1]. She is a Canadian actor and singer. O'Neil was the first Canadian woman to be the winner of Canadian Idol's third season in 2005. O'Neil is a well-known actress for her work on Syfy's sci-fi series Dark Matter. O'Neil was popular for her character in The Rookie as Officer Lucy Chen. O'Neil was voted as being in the bottom two or three of the finals. After being stunned, judges recommended that viewers vote for Melissa as the most loud contestant. O'Neil was highly praised for her performance and she didn't drop to the third place. Zack Werner declared that O'Neil was "a threat" to win the entire thing. The 7th of September, 2005 O'Neil made it to the final two spots of the show, competing alongside Rex Goudie, and after another stunning performance the judge Werner famously announced that the headlines of the next day's newspapers would read "The King, Kalan Porter has died and long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the grand finale results ceremony on September 14th, 2005 to be named Canada's third Idol.
